Robert Cobcroft is an Australian photographer who’s passion for photographing people began while living in Italy and Switzerland during the 1980’s.
Specialising in portraiture, Robert returned to Australia and studied photography at Queensland College of Art, Griffith University. Working alongside accomplished portrait photographers in Brisbane, Cobcroft learnt from the best in the business before founding the Hipshots portrait studio. Hipshots occupied a large studio space which incorporated a permanent gallery at 106 Edward Street Brisbane. During the 1990’s Robert began photographing headshots, at that time also trading as Corporate Portraits.
Cobcroft’s portrait work has been exhibited in group and solo exhibitions. The recipient of numerous national and international photographic awards, Robert’s images have been included in a diverse range of publications from Black and White Magazine to the most sumptuous art photography book you won’t find, the exclusive Ivory Press publication titled Horizons. Horizons was published exclusively for Netjets Europe and Cobcroft’s image titled “Man and Vauxhall Victor” is the feature image opening the final chapter about travel.
Today Cobcroft shoots in a purpose built portrait studio at Morningside. Photographing commercial headshots for brands and creative portrait projects for advertising, editorial and exhibitions.
When your brief extends beyond the headshot, other fields of photographic portraiture can be explored. Robert Cobcroft has refused the limiting constraints of adhering to one portrait style, shooting reportage, environmental or highly stylised studio portraits, for exhibitions and publication.
